Meet the Artist
Eunice Eiseman
When we moved to Stanley in 1990 I had time on my hands and was looking for something to do. During a visit to the Central Coast in
New South Wales for the birth of a grandchild, I went to a Teddy Bear show in Sydney Town Hall run by Mike & Jacqui Brooks. David
Worland was guest speaker. He told us how to repair and care for old bears. Back home I decided to have a go and bought some old
teddies as an experiment.
Then I began repairing bears for family and friends and it wasn’t long after that I made my first teddy. To my delight I sold it to
a grandparent who wanted a hand-crafted bear for a new grandchild. Soon word got around and I began getting orders for more bears. This
led to the creation of my Grandparents’ Choice range - my most popular teddy.
1995 saw the release of my first Limited Edition, named in memory of my friend and neighbour, Joyce McKeon. I made only twenty
‘Joyce’ bears and they all sold out in six weeks. Since then there has been a series of ‘specials’, including Mary of the Outback,
Peter Lalor, Hans Christian Andersen, Tom Roberts, Miranda from Picnic Rock and Old Father Time, just to name a few. Hans Christian
Andersen was the most popular.
Teddy Bears are my life after my husband and family, and this will continue since we moved to Wodonga in December 2010. Because our
new residence is much smaller than the Stanley property, I have decided to open by appointment only.
